Many of you regular readers already know about my serendipitous meeting of Bob, and how that led me to arcade bliss time and time again. However, for those of you who don’t know, Bob has been operating coin laundries for over 30 years and was the operator of the video arcade in my town during the 80′s. When it came time to get new games, Bob never traded the old ones in – he’d either convert them or keep them. Some games he had at his different laundrymat locations, but others he stored in his basement or warehouse.

Warehouse Raid 2008 – Part 3 – Diamonds In the Rough

This is part 3 in an ongoing series dedicated to the documentation of my warehouse raid in October, 2008. Read Part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE.

I consider myself lucky that I was allowed time to look over the bounty to fully assess the condition. As you can see from the photo above, not all the games were in great condition. In fact, MANY of the arcade games (about 1/3) sustained massive water damage. Apparantly when you leave a building surrounded by trees unattended for 10 years, the gutters and roof fill with leaves which forces water to find other places to travel. Who would’ve thought?

Through my getting to know Bob (the former op whom I wrote about in the previous post), he has told me several stories about the good-ole days of the golden age of arcades. Being far removed from that era and being so innundated with modern technologies like iPhones, laptops, X-boxes, and more, we forget how cutting-edge the arcade machines were back then. (more…)

If you have been an arcade collector for any length of time, you have no doubt had a dream of finding a whole bunch of classic arcade games that have been stashed in a warehouse somewhere and forgotten.
