In my latest warehouse lot, I was fortunate enough to come across some old Playmeter Magazines. Playmeter was a magazine about the arcade industry geared toward operators and distributors in the industy. Some of the articles in there are really mundane, and some are very interesting. While following article is pretty dry, I think it is neat to learn some history about a parts provider that most in the collecting hobby are familiar in name only, but not in the actual company or history. Below and after the jump, you will find 4 scans of the pages of the magazine. Click on each smaller version to view the larger, readable version. Cool to note: the author of this article is none other than famed repair tech Randy Fromm.

I’ve decided to throw my (cowboy) hat into the ring over at coinopspace.com as they are holding a summer arcade restoration contest:

In keeping with the rules, I can only post original content on coinopspace.com to remain eligible for the top prize. Therefore, I cannot post the restoration process on nocashvalue.info until AFTER the contest deadline. However, I will continue to update the site letting you all know when another update to the restoration has been made. Check out my Gunsmoke restoration thread or feel free to browse the rest of my competition. Let me know how you think I’m stacking up. Wish me luck!

So my website design company finally moved out of our teeny office space into a much larger (and cooler) office. In the office was a perfect little nook for a couple games. Since it is mostly for novelty and not necessarily collectability, I decided to bring up Strato-Flite as the first of two games to reside there.

She’s not 100% just yet, but she’s doing a lot better than when I first turned her on. (more…)

What’s in those boxes you ask? Monitor Chassis (uhh…chassis’s?), all freshly capped and ready to go into games whenever the need arises. Do I need this many monitors? No, but one can never be too prepared. This is actually the result of something that was set in motion back in September. (more…)

Many of you regular readers already know about my serendipitous meeting of Bob, and how that led me to arcade bliss time and time again. However, for those of you who don’t know, Bob has been operating coin laundries for over 30 years and was the operator of the video arcade in my town during the 80′s. When it came time to get new games, Bob never traded the old ones in – he’d either convert them or keep them. Some games he had at his different laundrymat locations, but others he stored in his basement or warehouse.
When I first went to Townview, there were a few games in operation, (more…)

So I wrote a few days ago about the prospect of picking this game up despite the significant playfield wear. Well here she is…

When I got her, only the playfield lights came on. I got no LEDs, no sound, no flashes on the LED…nothing. (more…)
