The Playchoice Gods Have Smiled On Me

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

I’m not one to normally score the awesome Craigslist deals. I don’t get updates sent to my phone, I have a normal 8-5 job so I can’t leave to get deals at the drop of the hat, and lastly, I live farther outside metro Atlanta than most. Therefore, I was almost certain I had already missed out on a deal I saw first thing this morning and was reluctant to even send off an email. The ad was for four different items – one Williams Flash pinball machine, two counter top touch-screens, and one bartop Playchoice 10, for $300 each or all 4 for $1000. The ad clearly stated that the monitor worked, but there no games came up on the screen. The owner suggested that the power supply needed to be replaced.

I debated on ordering a control panel overlay for my playchoice 10 from Arcade Overlays for quite some time. I had heard mixed reviews from several folks on the forum. I knew that they were inkjet printed and not silkscreened and that the overlays are not precut for button holes. I had previously purchased purchased an inkjet repro of a space duel overlay from Mamemarquees.com that was the wrong size, had no holes, and was a pain to deal with. With the purchase price plus shipping, this PC10 overlay came it at around $40. With all that to take into consideration, I was swayed by one thing – this was the only place to get this. Sold.

Playchoice 10 Sideart Closeup

The second game I aquired (well, third, actually. But VARTH when I was in college doesn’t really count) was a Dualscreen Playchoice 10 by Nintendo. Made in 1986, this system was (more…)
