I am now the proud owner of a Wizard of Wor cabaret from 1981 in great shape. The game is in great cosmetic shape except for the expected wear around the controls, and it is working 100%. (more…)
Here’s a really cool video using stop motion animation and legos to create some classic ‘cades. I can’t even begin to imagine how long this took to shoot. I did some stop-motion in high school and it was loooong. Kudos to the creator for being spot on. See if you know them all.
In my latest warehouse lot, I was fortunate enough to come across some old Playmeter Magazines. Playmeter was a magazine about the arcade industry geared toward operators and distributors in the industy. Some of the articles in there are really mundane, and some are very interesting. While following article is pretty dry, I think it is neat to learn some history about a parts provider that most in the collecting hobby are familiar in name only, but not in the actual company or history. Below and after the jump, you will find 4 scans of the pages of the magazine. Click on each smaller version to view the larger, readable version. Cool to note: the author of this article is none other than famed repair tech Randy Fromm.
Well, I scored it! Let’s chalk another one on the tally board. As far as large bulk deals go, this is my fifth. This lot isn’t the largest I’ve scored, but it isn’t the smallest either. Although there aren’t too many classics in this lot, for the money I think it is still a decent buyout.
I am leaving my house in about an hour to investigate another potential warehouse that is about an hour and a half away from my house. I already know the contents of the warehouse, so there should be no suprises, but you never know. This lot is smaller, has fewer classics, and is slightly more expensive – but hey, you gotta take what you can get. The good news is that this lot has far more working games than projects.
I’ll be off shortly to meet with the retired operator and eat lunch with him before getting my hands dirty in the warehouse. If all goes well, I should be picking up the games later this week. Fingers crossed…
As a collector, there is always an ebb and flow to your collection. Tastes change, opportunities arise, shit happens, etc. Having had the fortune to be able to own many many games during my relatively short time spent as a collector I have seen many games come and go. My actual basement arcade can only accomodate a moderate amount of games (per the wife) and therefore many times, if I want to add something to the collection, something else has to go.
Crazy Climber was one of the first games I owned once I actually considered myself a “collector” back in 2007. (more…)
I’ve decided to throw my (cowboy) hat into the ring over at coinopspace.com as they are holding a summer arcade restoration contest:
In keeping with the rules, I can only post original content on coinopspace.com to remain eligible for the top prize. Therefore, I cannot post the restoration process on nocashvalue.info until AFTER the contest deadline. However, I will continue to update the site letting you all know when another update to the restoration has been made. Check out my Gunsmoke restoration thread or feel free to browse the rest of my competition. Let me know how you think I’m stacking up. Wish me luck!
What’s up all you ATL folks? I know we’ve got plenty of folks from around Atlanta, Georgia around here. I have met some of you and have exchanged emails with others. Let’s network! Seeing pics of some of the New Englander’s parties have got me itchin’ for some local get-togethers. I don’t have many games, but I’d love to host a party this summer.
If you’re local to the Atlanta area, shoot me an email at info@nocashvalue.info and I’ll start us up an email list so we can keep everyone apprised of local get-togethers, games for sale, and what have you.
Some folks who have been collecting arcade games for years have never had the chance to experience a single warehouse raid opportunity. I guess I am lucky as I just got cleared for the purchase of another small warehouse full of games. I have to be mum on the details right now as I don’t have the games in my possession yet, but I just HAD to tell SOMEBODY! This is my fifth raid opportunity. Looks like I’ll be getting 24 games – 15 fully working. No parts or random junk just yet, but that may be on the docket in the future. One cool thing I can let slip is the fact that there is a supposedly working Atari GOTCHA in the mix. GOTCHA was the second 2-player game ever made and was Atari’s first non-Pong sequel made in 1973. Wicked. Wish me luck, I should have the games in my posession next week.
