Rising in the Arcade and Pinball Ranks

Not that many of you care, but I am slowly rising in the page ranks of google. I now show up on the second page of google for “arcade blog” and “pinball blog”‘, page 5 for “Atlanta Arcade Games”, and page one for “Atlanta Arcade Repair”. There are many things that Google looks at when determining search ranking such as use of keywords, metatags, and description along with backwards links (people linking to you), forward links, topical validity, and updated content. You may have noticed some slight modifications since I started this site including the “about” section in the sidebar and thought they were superfluous, but they actually help in search engine placement. In fact this post is probably helping me rise as I type.

This isĀ  trial and error process to see how the bots catalog you when they scan your site. I know from optimizing my website design company’s website for search engines, it took some time. When we first looked for our rank, I couldn’t find my site in the first 40 pages for our desired search words and gave up. After some tweaking I saw us on page 20 – not great placement, but hey, it was an improvement. After further tweaks each time we would slowly move up from page 20 to 17, to 12, to 8, to 4, etc. Finally we ended up on the first page and we currently fluctuate between #2 and #11. I hope I can ensure the same results for this website.

While I don’t think this will make me famous or rich, I certainly want to provide quality content to our quiet niche and possibly stir up some excitement for our hobby along the way.

Great work. My blog is entirely about pinball and will only ever have a limited appeal. I guess it helps the search of “pinball blog” that my blog is called “The Pinball Blog” but for searches simply of “pinball” I’m nowhere to be seen. I blog because I enjoy it and gradually the visitors came. I’m at about 250 uniques a day but it’s taken a year or more to get to that level. Nothing spectacular as far as blogs go, but for the niche, I’m happy! Keep it up!
