I had only been in the hobby for a few months before I was bowled over with the generoisty of some folks. I can remember someone local handing me a bunch of overlays because he could never use them and didn’t know what they were. Turned out they were for Lode Runner, and I was able to flip them for $20 each. I also remember Hans O hooking me up with a brand-new control panel button hole drill bit for free. Sometime later, someone on KLOV started the idea of a “Free Friday”. For the first couple of weeks, a thread would pop up with several people listing what they had for free, people could have the item for the cost of shipping and would simply pay-it-forward with offering something up for free themselves.
After a while, I noticed a diminished amount of Fridays with anything free available. I decided to remedy that and improve upon Free Friday by offering folks something absolutely free – I even pay shipping! Over the past year and a half, I have given away a bunch of stuff. Most recently, I have given away a Frogger Marquee, a Ms. Pac Manual, and a Sega to JAMMA adapter. Well, it looks like good Karma has found its way back to me.
Today in the mail, I received the playfield latches I needed for Strange ScienceĀ (for which I only had to cover shipping), and Chris J. in TN sent me 20ft of bright green t-molding to pimp out my Galaga absolutely free. I sure is nice to be on the receiving end of generosity. I encourage all of you to share the wealth. Go through your arcade junk, find parts or supplies you’ll never use, and help a fellow hobbiest out. Help out where you can, especially if someone is brand new to the hobby – I can’t tell you how much I appreciated it.
Be on the lookout for my next exclusive Free Friday offering on www.coinopspace.com this Friday!
